Its beautiful story:
“The first cameos date back to Greece and Ancient Rome. They then displayed images of gods and goddesses, heroes, rulers, religious figures and even significant events.
In Greece, the cameo was worn by women for the purpose of seduction. The cameo was discreet during the Middle Ages and finally resurfaced during the Renaissance, until the 19th century, through a strong artistic influence from Italy.
It is very popular with royal figures, including Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Napoleon Bonaparte. This last, wishing to limit imports from Italy, decided to create aschool engraving on hard stones, so thatyoung apprentices can develop this art in France."
