Its beautiful story:

The name of the tanzanite has crossed the ages and the continents, before being used by that of its country of origin, Tanzania.

It is said that fifty years ago, a particularly severe thunderstorm hit the Maasai lands. Lightning and the gigantic fire it produced burned everything in their path. After the blaze was extinguished, the Maasai shepherds discovered a carpet of ash studded with brilliant blue crystals. Samples of the stone were sent around the world and analysis showed it to be a blue zoisite.

Declared the most beautiful blue stone discovered in 2000 years, the gem was eventually named tanzanite in honor of its country of origin.
